The digital turn from a newsroom perspective – How German journalists from different generations reflect on the digitalization of journalism

In times of crisis, journalism’s own history needs to be reflected upon, both from within and outside the newsroom. This paper attempts both. From a scientific perspective, we examined process digitalization journalism then asked journalists different generations reflect on this process. Based data gathered these semi-structured interviews with German journalists, our presents their evaluation evolution analog digital journalism—from retired male reporters who wrote most articles typewriters young female journalists. The journalists—including local newspaper reporters, public broadcasting services news magazines’ editors, freelancers former Democratic Republic (GDR) journalists—are part larger funded research project journalism. Their analysis reveals common problematization growing pace production hybridization media formats. qualitative confirm quantitative surveys can help international get an in-depth understanding how perceive changes over last decades in trade.
